Comparison of usage of selected apperception techniques in children aged 6 to 7 years
Tylš Adámková, Jana ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Sotáková, Hana (referee) ; Preiss, Marek (referee)
The main topic of this dissertation is the usage of apperception techniques in diagnosing children aged 6 to 7 years, with an emphasis on the practice of School Psychology. The theoretical part focuses primarily on psychological diagnosis in School Psychology with the emphasis on apperception techniques, their benefits, and downfalls. The other focus is on the Thematic Apperception Test and Roberts-2, as well as selected assessment systems. The practical part is introduced by the research methodology. Both diagnostic methods were administered to 30 children aged 6 to 7 years, whose responses were assessed using standardized systems, and subsequently compared both quantitatively and qualitatively. The main finding is that the stories evoked by Roberts-2 cards exceeds the stories evoked by TAT cards in developmental quality, the latter of which the children find too overloading to produce an optimal reaction, with varied results in their adaptability. The dissertation also presents the specifics of administering these methods to children. Based on the data derived from 50 children, the Czech norms for Roberts-2 method for children aged 6 to 7 were created in their working stage, and than compared with the original American norms.
Social skills of convicted men
Humpálová, Hana ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis concerns a question, if social skills of convicted men are the same as social skills of men who have been never convicted. In terms of theoretical part there is an issue of prisons closely analysed including concrete problems of Czech prison system. Except overflowing, there is a problem of high recidivism and to that related imperfect postpenitenciar care, prisonization, lack of privacy and intimity of prisoners etc. Furthermore, potential impacts of imprisoning on psychical state of prisoners are analysed - prisoners are more often apathetic, they lose social contacts to people out of the prison, they also lose a possibility to decide for themselves and their lives. In theoretical part of thesis there is also Thematic Apperception Test described. It was given to two groups of research participants - a group of convicted men and a group of never convicted men. Thematic Apperception Tests were evaluated by Social Orientation Scale afterwards. Retrieved data were interpreted in exploratory part of thesis.
Attachment at Children of Mothers with Schizofrenia
Schmiedová, Petra ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis explores the influence of mother's mental disorder, specifically schizophrenia, on child's attachment in adulthood. In the theoretic part, basic terms of attachment theory are introduced. I describe selected methods of attachment assessment and the associated attachment types or states of mind with respect to attachment. Further on, key information on schizophrenia is presented with an emphasis on impact of schizophrenia on mother - child relationship. The following empiric part explores the form and type of attachment of children with mothers who suffer from schizophrenia and its evolution in time. I was also interested in different strategies the children employ to cope with their mother's illness. Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) is the primary method used in the research, complemented by Experiences in Close Relationships Scale (ECR) and Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). The research results show that attachment of children with schizophrenic mothers tend to be anxious, specifically anxious-avoidant and disoriented-disorganized, more often than in the general population. Mother's illness thus has negative effects on child's attachment.
Social Orientation Scale in Thematic Apperception Test
Novotná, Hana ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with a possibility of measuring levels of social skills using the Social Orientation Scale (SOS) in stories made up with the Thematic Apperception Test. In the theoretical part we introduce the Thematic Apperception Test, the scoring systems used to interpret it and the Social Orientation Scale of Goldmann and Soukupová. This part also introduces the concept of social competence, describe the characteristics of an adolescence development stage and specifics of youth detention centers, their clients and a problematic behavior observed at most of them. In the empirical part we compare two groups of adolescents, each consisting of 30 probands. The first group was made up by girls and boys currently undergoing a diagnostic stay in youth detention centers, while the second group consisted of their same-age peers from an ordinary population. To obtain the basic characteristics of the subjects under test, we employ semi-structured anamnestic interview. Furthermore, the Thematic Apperception Test is evaluated using the Social Orientation Scale and the results thereof are statistically analysed. Our research focuses mainly on figuring out the differences in the competence levels reached at the particular tables and as a whole. Besides that, the stories are analyzed content-wise, focusing...
Apperception techniques and the Pathogenesis Index
Kuhnová, Eva ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with themes of Apperception techniques and Pathogenesis Index. The text is divided in two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part introduces techniques based on the process of apperception, their nature and history. I am dealing closer with some specific techniques widespread worldwide, but the most space is devoted to the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). A very important part of the thesis is a chapter devoted to Pathogenesis Index - the scoring system used to analyze TAT - its creation, utilization, psychometric properties. The translation of the scoring manual is the part of this charter. Because of working with the parents of schizophrenics in empirical part, the introduction of schizophrenia disease and the impacts of family background on the origin and development of schizophrenia are present in the theoretical part. The empirical part is devoted to the use of the Pathogenesis Index in practice. Research questions arising from researches of 60's and 70's, that worked with the idea that parental involvement may affect the development of schizophrenia their own children. The research group is composed of 5 parents of schizophrenics and the control group consists of 5 parents of individuals without psychiatric illness. The research is focused on the...

Storytelling according to the TAT in the State of Moderate Stress: The Effect of Defense Mechanisms on Coping with Moderate Stress.
Míčková, Martina ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor) ; Čáp, David (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on storytelling in the state of moderate stress. The theoretical part includes an introduction to the issue of stress, defense mechanisms, Thematic Apperception Test and then explains in detail theory of defense mechanism according to Phebe Cramer and also Defense Mechanism Manual which is used for evaluation of TAT defenses. The aim of empirical part of this thesis is to find out whether moderate pain which is caused by the fact that participants holds their hand in front of them (in position of "staying power") has effect on number of occurrence of defense mechanisms in narratives according to TAT. The stories are narrated during the staying power position. The second aim is to verify whether number and quality of used defenses has effect on the duration of the staying power position. The simple regression analysis was used to find out that there is no significant relationship between number of used defense mechanisms and the level of experienced pain. However, it is shown that higher usage of defense mechanisms has positive effect on duration of staying power position. This effect is even stronger if only matured defense mechanisms are included in the model, which is projection and identification.
Assessment of Social Cognition and Object Realtions of Patients with Schizophrenia
Smolová, Alžběta ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
The thesis examines social cognition and object relations in patients with schizophrenia using Thematic Apperception Test evaluated by SCORS. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with schizophrenia, Thematic Apperception Test and its interpretation systems (especially Westen's SCORS). Attention is also paid to the theoretical background of social cognition and object relations in patients with schizophrenia. The aim of the study is to verify the assumption that patients with schizophrenia will reach pathological scores in SCORS. The study also explores the relationships between different dimensions of SCORS in this clinical population. The results indicate that patients with schizophrenia have numerous deficits in social cognition and object relations, as measured by SCORS. Significantly lower scores (that belong or are very close to pathology) were found in a total of five SCORS's dimensions. In the remaining three dimensions patients with schizophrenia achieved below-average results. Cross-correlations among SCORS's dimensions and factor analysis results which revealed a three component structure of SCORS in patients with schizophrenia are also discussed. Keywords: Schizophrenia, social cognition, object relations, SCORS, Thematic Apperception Test, correlation analysis, factor analysis.

Comparison of cognitive achievement in WAIS-III and TAT through SCORS
Hudečková, Lucie ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Goldmann, Petr (referee)
This thesis examines the relationship of verbal intelligence and social cognition through verbal subtests of Wechsler intelligence scales for adults (3rd revision) and Differential Self and Complexity of representations of People and Understanding of Social Causality scales in Thematic Apercepčního Test. The theoretical part introduces the concepts of intelligence and social cognition, as well as psychological tests of intelligence tests and apperception techniques. The theoretical part also focuses on the social intelligence as an answer to the question of the relationship between intelligence and social cognition. In the empirical part of the thesis data collected from 30 probands is processed who underwent testing above mentioned psychological tests. The data are processed with correlation and factor analysis. The conclusions statistical processing are in the thesis further developed in the context of the theoretical base of scientific knowledge. The discussion points to limits of the testing and suggests options for the future researchs.
